FAKE DOCTORS EXIST AT FEDERAL MEDICAL CENTRE ABEOKUTA, SAYS CONSULTANT SURGEON

The Consultant Surgeon of Federal Medical Centre,Abeokuta,Dr Ebenezer Nkom on Thursday admitted the existence of fake Doctors at the health institution.
Nkom who was a guest lecturer at the 28th edition of Sanyaolu M‎emorial Lecture organised by Nigerian Institution of Surveyors,NIS,Ogun State Branch made this known in Abeokuta
He also affirmed that,number of the fake medical practitioners in the institution are fond of dressing in a corporate manner to deceive innocent patients.
“In the FMC about  many years ago I did a bit of studies on the staff ratios , I found out that  out of the populations doctors and nurses constitute less than 10% of the population of the staff’,Nkom said.
The consultant further explained that,most of those people see in ties under the guise of medical doctors never passed through training,but noted that many innocent patients call victims.
‘So most of the people we see putting on ties and walk around may not be doctors . There was a cleaner they used to call him doctor I have seen patients that he has referred to me. ‘So he calls himself doctor, ,Nkom revealed .
He called on patients in the hospitals, and other health institutions to always be curious and proactive in finding out authenticity of medical doctors attending to them.
‘You see Nigerians are very gullible, I am a doctor you believe him why didn’t you ask what is you degree’.
‘Of course In the federal institutions I know you are going to challenge me that there was a quack doctor in federal ministry of health who work there up to the level of a director, yes it happened we know ourselves lower down. So is possible but they may not be doctors‎’
Earlier in his welcome speech, Chairman, Nigerian Institution of Surveyors,Babatunde Ashaye  requested government to establish Office of Surveyor General,as an extra ministerial department in the state.
He pointed out and lamented that,Ogun State remains the only state in the South-West in Nigeria that has not established this office,’the effect some of us see and feel in terms of decision making on land policy’

Ashaye recalled that,the institution has written to all concerned on the need to have a good land policy in the state,so as to encourage the the private sector to move into the state to do business through provision of housing and necessary title documents for the public.
‘I use this medium to appeal to our Director General,Bureau of Lands and Survey to assist in making it a reality for Ogun State to have the office of the Surveyor General as an extra ministerial department in the state’,the chairman emphasised.
