Failed Contracts: Forget Friendship, Probe Senator Amosun – NAOSS Challenge Gov Abiodun

Leadership of National Association of Ogun State Students (NAOSS) have challenged Governor Dapo Abiodun to look beyond long years of friendship witj his predecessor, Senator Ibikunle Amosun, but rather probe all projects executed by the former governor with immediate effect.
NAOSS stated that such move by governor Abiodun would save the future of the state, having censured all the activities and projects executed by Amosun during his eight years administration as governor.
The students body equally called on Economic and Financial Crime Commission (EFCC) to investigate the administration of all funds allocated and generated by Ogun State under Senator Amosun from 2011 to 2019.
This was made known in the resolution of the one day lecture organized in commemoration of 2020 Democracy Day celebration by the leadership of NAOSS on June 12th, 2020.
Ogunrombi Oluwagbemileke, NAOSS National President in the resolution made available to newsmen noted that it was obvious that Senator Ibikunle Amosun had successfully within his eight years of tenure in office, mortgaged the future of the unborn generation in Ogun state
“With over 70 percent of contracts approved by him remains abandoned and uncompleted across the state. Billions of naira budgeted and allocated to the education sector were mostly seen on papers and not practically actualised on our campuses.
“We call on Gov Dapo Abiodun, to look beyond the long years friend between him and now predecessor, and save the future of our dear state, through urgent probe of Senator Ibikunle Amosun. Recall, that Amosun quickly on assumption of office in 2011, immediately swung into practical actions in probing his predecessor Fmr. Governor Otunba Gbenga Daniel.
“That in the spirit of June 12 we call on all our elected and appointed leaders at all level of governance to be patriotic and committed towards delivering the deliverables of dividends of democracy to our entire citizen. We equally call on them to shun corruption which has been the bane of our development as a nation since independent.
“That we condemn the recent upsurge in the incident of rape across the country where most of the victims were murdered. And we called on the federal government of Nigeria and all state government to do the needful towards addressing this ugly incident forthwith,” he stated.
In another development, he disclosed that the leadership of NAOSS has resolved to confer a post-humous honor on late MKO ABIOLA, a honour which is the highest honour that can be bestowed on any individual, and such honour is conferred once in a year on a single individual.
“We also resolve to visit the grave of the late MKO ABIOLA at his Lagos residence on the 18th of June, 2020. We reaffirmed our hope and commitment to the unity and corporate existence of our country Nigeria as one indivisible entity in spite of the current security challenges,” he said.
Also in the resolution, he said “We wish to use this opportunity to express our profound gratitude to President Muhammadu Buhari GCFR for declaring June 12 as Democracy Day in Nigeria in honour of the unjustly annulment of June 12 election in Nigeria.
“That students leaders acknowledge and appreciate the ongoing efforts by His Excellency, Governor Dapo Abiodun, the Executive governor of Ogun State aimed at reposition our state economy and most especially our educational sector.
“That we appreciate the timely response of President Muhhamadu Buhari GCFR towards the control and management of COVID-19 pandemic in Nigeria and we equally commends our able governor all efforts in the same direction most especially the palliative of which majority our students who are on campus received during the lockdown.
“That we call on all citizen of Ogun State to support Governor Dapo Abiodun administration drive towards revamping of our dear state economy.
“That we commend the ongoing efforts by the Federal Government of Nigeria under the astute leadership of President Muhammadu Buhari”.
