Exclusive: National Salaries, Incomes and Wages Commission approves new salary structure for police

Public outcry for better welfare packages for Nigeria police officers that will enhance effective policing across the country has yielded result as the National Salaries, Incomes and Wages Commission has given approval for the Force to implement the new salary grading, and ranking structure.
This was disclosed in a letter written with reference number SWC/S/04//8.35/V/315, dated October 31st, 2018 by the Executive Chairman of the Commission, High Chief Richard Onwuka Egbule, with headline ‘Re: Addressing remuneration challenges of the Nigeria Police Force’, and directed to the Inspector General of Police (IGP).
The Chairman in the letter said: “Please refer to your letter Ref No. CB. 3380/IGP.SEC/FHQ/ABJ/Vol./69/
“Sequel to the above, I convey approval for the Nigeria Police Force to implement the New Salary Grading/Ranking Structure, the Consolidated Police Salary Structure and the Rent Structure attached herewith as Annex III. IV. and V respectively.
“The approval takes effect from 1st November, 2018 and will be funded from the treasury as already indicated in the Presidential approval. Please accept the assurances of my warm regards.”
Meanwhile, the Commission letter was received by an Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) (names withheld) at the Force headquarters, Abuja on the 1st November, 2018 for onward transmission to the IGP for immediate implementation.
With this development, the policemen and women are expected to be more effective in the discharge of their duties, to ensure that the insecurity across the country becomes a thing of the past, while citizens can sleep with the it two eyes closed.
The approval which took effect from this November and will be funded from the treasury as directly indicated in the Presidential approval.
