Ex-Eagles stars for Edo FA/Let’s Play programme
Over 300 kids are expected to take part in the SuperSport Let’s Play programme scheduled to hold at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium, Benin City, on Saturday.
According to the Chairman, Edo State Football Association, Frank Ilaboya, he said that Let’s Play is a corporate social responsibility initiative developed by SuperSport and partners in response to a national need.
Furthermore Ilaboya stated that the event is for kids between eight and 13 years, adding that it was packaged courtesy of a partnership between the Edo FA and SuperSport.
Former Super Eagles captain and coach, Austin Eguavoen, who is also the Ambassador of the Edo State Football League; ex-Golden Eaglets coach, Monday Odigie, ex-junior international, Wilson Oboh; Maroc ’88 AFCON finalist, Ndubuisi Okosieme; Joe Okoh and 1993 U-17 World Cup-winning coach, Fanny Amun, are the technical personnel for the event.
“The technical personnel from Edo State will join the six-man SuperSports crew, which includes 1997 African Player of The Year, Victor Ikpeba, to teach the kids the rudiments of football.
“It’s a big carnival and Edo State is excited to partner with SuperSport Let’s Play initiative. Schools will resume next week, so it’s a big opportunity to liven the kids up before they resume their educational activities.
“This is a move to ensure that football in Edo State is not just for the older players; we want to have a holistic football culture. That’s why we are taking it to the young kids to ensure that we bring back the glory days of Edo football.
“It’s also going to be a dress rehearsal for the NWFL Super 4 tournament that will be hosted by the Edo State Government. We thank SuperSports and their GM West Africa, Felix Awogu, who approved the programme.” He noted.
