Epileptic power supply: Obaseki attacks BEDC again

ABIODUN JIMOH, BENIN CITY

Governor Godwin Obaseki of Edo State has frantically said no to activities of Benin Electricity Distribution Company (BEDC), noting that electricity has been their problem which his administration is currently solving.

He hereby assured that the state will have her own electricity company in Edo before the celebration of his administration’s third year anniversary.

Governor Obaseki noted that his administration was working to get an alternate source of power supply in the state to drive development, remarking that steady power supply was needed to grow the economy, including the entertainment industry.

He said: “Electricity has been our problem and we are solving it. We say No to Benin Electricity Distribution Company (BEDC), we will have our own electricity company in Edo before the celebration of my administration’s third year anniversary.”

It could be recalled that governor Obaseki recently ordered the arrest of officials of Benin Electricity Distribution Company (BEDC for removing a transformer bought and installed by community members.

Obaseki said the state is having power challenge because it has an inefficient electricity distribution company, which is holding back progress in the state.

“They will not supply light and will do everything to stop you. When we make alternative arrangements to help ourselves, BEDC will do everything to truncate it. We have reported to Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) and I am sure that very soon something positive will be done.

“Soon, our communities will be one of the largest single producers of electricity in Nigeria as you host NIPP and Azura power plantS,” he said.
