Engr. Seyi Makinde approves N1.4bn gratuity to retired Oyo teachers, LG workers
Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde has approved payment of over N1.4bn to retired primary schoolteachers and local government area workers in the state.
Before distributing cheques to the beneficiaries at the conference room of the Local Government Service Commission, the Head of Service, Alhaja Hamidat Agboola, who was represented by the Permanent Secretary, Service Matters, Alhaji Fatai Oladeinde, said the state government was focused on pensioners’ welfare in the state.
About 1, 000 pensioners from primary schools and local government areas, who retired between 2010 and 2012, were captured as beneficiaries.
Agboola said, “The present administration is not oblivious of the hardship, pains and challenges being faced by our senior citizens as a result of their unpaid benefits over the years.
“Governor Seyi Makinde has therefore resolved to face the challenge squarely. All he needs from us is our support and prayers so as to take the state to greater heights.”
The Secretary Oyo State Local Government Staff Pension Board, Dr Ayodele Busari, praised the governor for the development.
The Nigeria Labour Congress Chairman in the state, Bayo Titilola-Sodo; the state Nigeria Union of Pensioners Secretary, Segun Abatan; and one of the beneficiaries, Afolabi Abiodun, also prised Makinde for paying the retirees.
