Engr Dayo: I Remain Chairman Of Ijebu-Igbo Elders Council, Foils Senator Kashamu’s Plan
By ABIODUN JIMOH, ABEOKUTA
Engr Adebayo Dayo has reiterated that come rain, come shine, he still remain the Chairman of Ijebu-Igbo Elders Council (ICE), as he discountenanced the purported removal letter written by the Board of Trustees (BOT).
Daily Dispatch recalls that the ICE in a letter dated May 4th, 2020 and jointly signed by its BOT Chairman, Prof. Layi Ogunkoya and Secretary, Otunba Yinka Bolajo had compelled Engr. Dayo to vacate the position honourably.
The BOT in the letter signified that his involvement in partisan politics was capable of derailing the collective goals of the council, especially as it involved chairman and a member in controversial and unhealthy political crisis that could divide the council memberships and Orimolusi Kingdom in general.
However, in his response letter to the ICE BOT chairman dated May 14th, 2020, Engr Dayo ridiculed his credibility to have written the letter, emphasising that he lacked the authority nor power to write such as the Constitution of the council never ascribed or arrogate such power unto him.
He said: “In response to your letter requesting that I should step down as the chairman, Ijebu Igbo Council of Elders, dated May 4th, 2020, and served on me some days ago.
“I was surprised and highly disappointed to receive your letter under reference as none of the BOT members including yourselves that signed the letter know my own side of story of whatever you feel is going on that made you to write the letter.
“It is necessary to let you know that you as BOT members, have no right to write this letter to me as Chairman of the Executive Committee of the Council, as BOT is a member of the Executive Council and the members were appointed by the Executive Committee. The Constitution of the Council is very clear on this.
“As members of the BOT, your duty is to advise the Executive Council. You cannot exercise any power you do not have.
“I need to state that the Council members are aware that I am a politician before I was appointed as Chairman at a town Hall meeting. I now wonder why whatever happened as a result of any political decision I took should be the headache of any members of the Council of the BOT except that you are partisan.
“I am not surprised that you have been compensated to write this letter to me as your sponsor, Senator Buruji Kashamu has been going about to say that he masterminded this letter written by you and he had also displayed your letter on the social media.
“Suffice to say that I have no option than to discountenance your letter written without authority nor power to write such as the constitution of the Council never ascribe such power to you,” he concluded.
