Emergency sitting: Hon. Emergency succeeds Dajoh as Benue Speaker

Hon. Berger Alfred Emberga has been chosen as the new Speaker of the Benue State House of Assembly.

His emergence followed the resignation of Hon. Hyacinth Dajoh, who stepped down via a handwritten letter submitted to the Clerk of the Assembly on August 24, 2025.

At an emergency sitting held on Sunday, August 25, lawmakers elected Emberga to lead the 10th Assembly, filling the leadership void created by Dajoh’s departure.

In his resignation letter, which quickly spread across social media, Dajoh thanked his colleagues for the privilege of serving as “first among equals.” He further assured that he would continue to discharge his responsibilities as a member representing Gboko West State Constituency.
