Egbetokun Is Not An Illegal IGP….Leave Muyiwa Adejobi Alone

By Kolawole Adepoju
I’ve been wondering whether some Nigerians truly know the meaning of the word ‘illegal’ or as usual whipping their interpretation of the Queen’s coinage with noticeable sentiment.
The word illegal is anything that is devoid of official legal process, passage and approval which is otherwise in the case of the nation’s Inspector General of Police (IGP),Kayode Egbetokun.
The IGP went through the screening and the ratifications of the much needed prescribed authorities and above all he was duly appointed by the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria,Mr.Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
It is therefore baseless, unfounded and ill informed to say the appointment of the IGP is illegal when relevant prescribed authorities gave their nod.
Those saying IGP Egbetokun ought to have retired from service as at the time of his appointment should just come up with evidences to buttress their claim. You don’t just fabricate tissues of lie and be spreading it as if it is the gospel truth.
It is high time we stop heating the polity of our dear nation unnecessarily just because some people see themselves as sacred cows who should not even be touched with long poles because once the searchlight of security agencies is beamed at them they must unleash their venom.
I’m always miffed by such penchant for denigrating the persons and offices of relevant officials who are legitimately doing their job professionally with due diligence.
The spate of attack on the person and office of the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Mr.Muyiwa Adejobi, especially in the last few days is so overwhelming such that you can’t even make a distinction between him and his boss the IGP as the target of the touted aggrieved Nigerians. At a point,I said to myself “Is Muyiwa Adejobi too an illegal Police Spokesman?”.
What names have they not called Muyiwa Adejobi in the last few days, especially on social media for doing his legitimate job professionally. Is there any denigrating adjectives they’ve not explored and deplored lavishly on him as if it is an heinous crime or sin to be the Force Spokesman of a country called Nigeria reputed as Africa most populous nation.
Expectedly, the gentleman mien is evidential of him as not rattled nor ruffled by the misplaced rantings of the untouchables who are masquerading as social crusaders.Muyiwa must have developed thick skin as a chip of the old bloc.Adejobi is unperturbed knowing that it is the sacrificial price that must be paid in his modest contributions to national development.
My concern is for how long shall we continue to portray our public officers, the IGP and PPRO in this case in bad light to the outside world, especially when it is ill-informed.Musn’t our elites seperate personalities from issues when pressing home their demands?
Won’t foreign countries where teeming Nigerians are trooping to for greener pastures continue to denigrate us and turning their back at us when we are habitually painting ourselves black in the name of activism?.Is there any perfect system in this world?
Has age altered the popular saying that the biggest space in the world is room for improvement.Must that be forced on the platter of blackmails or riding on the crest of “if you dare touch us we wl come for you and give you wotowoto”.
Leave our IGP and the Force Spokesman alone.
