Edo Election: Call APC To Order, PDP Tells Buhari….Demands Unreserved Apology For Invasion Of Oba’s Palace
Ahead of Edo state governorship election, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on Monday charged President Muhammadu Buhari and security agencies to call the All Progressive Congress (APC) to order.
The appeal was made by the Chairman, Publicity sub Committee of PDP National Campaign Council on Edo Governorship Election (PDP NCCEGE) and owner of DAAR Communication, Raymond Dokpesi, while addressing newsmen in Abuja.
Dokpesi, who said that PDP is not scared nor intimidated by the invasion of Oba of Benin palace by alleged thugs of APC, added that, “the Peoples Democratic Party definitely is not scared nor frightened nor intimidated by the act. You know that when you have this frequent attacks, there is bound to be apathy, people are bound to be frightened.”
Fielding questions from newsmen, Dokpesi said, “I think it is only very clear and there is no gain saying about it that the APC must be called to order by the President himself and by the security agencies.ALSO READ
“People are being intimidated, people are being shot at, if you look at the clip of what transpired which AIT carried, one of the leaders of APC clearly said that they came to the palace earlier on prepared and once the PDP governors, senators, leaders were approaching the palace, they opened fire on them, they started shooting.
“It would have been very easy to actually respond but we are law abiding in the Peoples Democratic Party. We are not cultists in the Peoples Democratic Party. Look at the clear records of the people in the PDP, they are men of distinction, men of honour, peace loving people and people ready to provide service to the people of Edo state.”
In his speech, the Secretary, Publicity sub Committee of PDP NCCEGE and National Publicity of the party, Kola Ologbondiyan, told the APC to tender an unreserved apology to the Edo traditional institution for bringing thugs to attack guests and desecrate the palace of the highly revered Oba of Benin, last Saturday.
“Findings from our investigations, including hard evidence contained in the video of the attack posted by agents of the APC, clearly showed that the assault was coordinated by the APC and its leaders in Edo state to embarrass the traditional council and create a situation of chaos in the state with the view to derail the electoral process,” he said.
The party happreciated some remorseful APC leaders who had reached out to the National Campaign Council to express their personal regrets over the matter.
“Nevertheless, we hold that the apologies should also openly go to the Edo traditional council and the people of Edo state in general.
“Nigerians are still in a state of shock that the APC leaders in Edo, in their desperation, could go to the extent of bringing thugs to the Oba of Benin palace to attack PDP entourage, which included state governors, and in the process brought unbridle violence against innocent citizens, as seen in the video posted by their agents,” the party said.
