Edo 2020: Why Osinbajo Absent At National Sports Festival Opening Ceremony- Obaseki

The Vice President, Federal Republic of Nigeria, Professor Yemi Osinbajo unavoidable absent at the officially opening ceremony of the ongoing 20th National Sports Festival in Benin City, Edo State has been revealed.

Prof Osinbajo, who was widely announced to officially declare the sports festival open on Tuesday after a endless waiting by thousands of athletes and officials as well as other stakeholders could not land in the ancient city due to bad weather.

Governor Godwin Obaseki in his address at the event disclosed that storm denied the Nigeria number two man aircraft to land in Benin City as a result of the rain that fell in the day.

He noted that the weather was not clear enough for Osinbajo aircraft to be able to land at the Benin airport necessitated his inability to perform the official opening ceremony of the festival that actually commenced on April 2nd with the opening of the Games village at University of Benin.

He hereby said that his administration has invested much in the Samuel Ogbemudia stadium to world class standard for the event as well as many other sports centres across the state.

However, he thanked President Muhammadu Buhari for given the enabling support to ensure that the festival still holds at last after many postponements due to the outbreak of Coronavirus pandemic last year.

Meanwhile, contingents from all the thirty six states and Abuja performed the colourful traditional march pass with fanfare and dance to spice up the long awaited ceremony.
