Edo 2020: Team Ogun Revives Fela Spirit During National Sports Festival Match Parade

Team Ogun State contingent to the 20th National Sports Festival in Benin City, Edo State was the cynosure of all eyes at the tradition match parade as the team revived the spirit of legendary music icon, Fela Anikulapo Kuti.

The Team Ogun was led by the Commissioner for Youth and Sports, Hon. Oludare Kehinde to the opening ceremony held at Samuel Ogbemudia stadium, Benin City, ably supported by the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Youth and Sports, Engr. Abiodun Olayiwola; Director of Sports, Ogun State Sports Council, Mrs Folakemi Oluwarotimi Iyabode and many others.

During the parade, Fela widely accepted song ‘Water no get enemy’ enveloped the air that arouse the spirit of the music legend while the whole stadium was enlivened when the song was being played.

The Team Ogun athletes and officials who participated at the event, all dressed in their colourful yellow with strip green could not hide their affection for the song released over three decades ago as they danced to the amazement of all those that witnessed the ceremony.

Earlier on, the festival was opened with the commissioning of facilities while the official opening ceremony was performed by Minister of Youth and Sports Development, Chief Sunday Dare who represented President Muhammadu Buhari at the event.

Various artistes exhibited their performances just as the rich Edo cultural heritage was displayed.
