Edo 2020: Commissioner, Team Ogun Synergise On Challenges, Medals Prospect

It was an eventful Wednesday night as Ogun State Commissioner for Youths and Sports, Dr. Oluwadare Kehinde, athletes and officials had fruitful deliberations on the way out of challenges and medals prospect at the ongoing 20th National Sports Festival in Edo State.

The Commissioner who was at the Games Village, University of Benin, where the athletes and officials were camped met with them for a review meeting whereby they expressed their challenges and medals prospects at the festival.

The meeting which was to evaluate the Team Ogun performance since the commencement of the festival on Sunday started few minutes after nine at night while it lasted for over an hour.

At the review meeting, officials and athletes expressed their minds, challenges and raised the hope of winning medals for the state in their respective sports events.

Among the issues deliberated upon included accommodation, movements, feeding, allowances and many others, but at the end, the commissioner assured them of attending to all these needs as soon as possible.

Also, he reiterated that Governor Prince Dr. Dapo Abiodun readiness to give the whole team maximum comfort needed to excel at the festival, adding that the aspect of allowance have been taken care by those in charge.

Earlier on, Mrs. Folakemi Oluwarotimi Iyabode, Director of Sports, Ogun State Sports Council briefed the commissioner on the state performance and number of medals won so far.

She mentioned that the state contingents won one gold medal in taekwondo, one silver in badminton, and five bronze medals from kungfu, kick-boxing and squash respectively. Adding that the Team Ogun has qualified to the final stage in darts and badminton single female event.
