EDHA passes additional N10.874b reversed supplementary budget

Edo State House of Assembly has considered and approved the reversed 2018 supplementary budget transmitted
by the governor, Godwin Obaseki earlier sent to the House.

This was done to reinvigorate the speedy completion of the on-going projects and initiation of new ones geared towards the transformation of Edo State.

At the resumption of the Plenary session on Monday, Speaker, Rt. Hon. Kabiru Adjoto, who presided over the plenary said that the reversed supplementary budget made up of additional N10.874b, hereby bringing the total budget to N160.967b as captured by the executive arms, to fast track the execution of people oriented projects in the state.

The Speaker, who affirmed the support of members, announced the suspension of the rules 42, 43, 44, 45, 46, 47, 48 and 55 of the House to enable parliament to give speedy consideration to the budget.

Constituency, Hon. Roland Asoro said the consideration and speedy passage of the supplementary budget has become necessary as it will cater for some critical sectors of the state economy and projects
execution.

After affirming the overwhelming support of members, the reversed supplementary budget was passed into law, while the speaker directed the Clerk of the House to send clean copies to the governor for his assent.

Moreover, the speaker also announced the lifting of the three months suspension earlier slammed on the member representing Owan East constituency, Hon. Foly Ogedengbe for his misdemeanour in the impeachment of the former deputy speaker.

Amidst growing criticism by the flagrant disregard of the House directives by the ousted deputy Speaker, Rt. Hon. Victor Edoror, to return all government vehicles in his possession to the House, the
Speaker, has directed the State Commissioner of Police to within 48
hours retrieve all government vehicles still in the hands of the former deputy Speaker to the House.

Speaking under personal explanation, the member representing Esan North East Constituency I, Hon. Patrick Iluobe drew the House attention to the demise of a political Icon and the lyasele of Esan
land, Chief Anthony Anenih at the age of 85 years.

He recalled the contributions of Chief Anthony Anenih to the restoration of Democracy in the country in 1999 and various positions held which translated to the attraction of the Benin City bye-pass,
the dualization of Benin — Asaba roads, amongst others.

Hon. Iluobe appreciated Edo State government for declaring a three day
mourning, and its resolve to accord the Elder statesman, a state burial, which transcends party affiliations, just as the Speaker requested members to observe a minute silence in honour of the former
Minister of Works and Board of Trustees Chairman of PDP.

The House also adopted a resolution mandating the State governor to
re-named Egba Grammar School after late Dr. Iyayi Effianayi as a way of immortalising the foremost industrialist and philanthropist, who passed on at the age of 87 years.

This followed the consideration of the report of three-man Adhoc
Committee chaired by Hon. Patrick Iluobe, which also recommended the House to dispatch 7 man delegation to commiserate with the Iyayi family.

The chairman, Edo State Internal revenue service, Mr. Igbinidu Inneh appeared before the House to briefed parliament on the revenue generation profile since the inauguration of the board.

Before moving motion for adjournment, the Member representing Oredo West Constituency, Hon. Chris Okaeben Commended the State government
for the support given to Bendel Insurance Football Club, which aided the victory against 3Sc Football Club of Ibadan, thereby moving to the premier league after 10 years of non-qualification.

The House has adjourned Plenary to the l2th of November.
