DSS to Arraign El-Rufai Over Alleged Cybercrime, Security Breach
The Department of State Services (DSS) is set to arraign former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, on Wednesday, February 25, over alleged cybercrime and threats to national security.
El-Rufai will appear before Justice Joyce Abdulmalik of the Federal High Court in Abuja to answer to the charges.
The former governor was briefly detained by the DSS on February 18 shortly after spending two nights in the custody of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
Speaking last Saturday on Prime Time, a programme on Arise Television, El-Rufai alleged that the phone of the National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu, had been wiretapped, claiming he overheard instructions ordering his arrest.
On Monday, the DSS filed a three-count charge accusing him of unlawfully intercepting the NSA’s telephone conversation. According to the agency, the alleged actions violate provisions of the Cybercrimes (Prohibition, Prevention, etc.) Amendment Act, 2024, as well as the Nigerian Communications Act, 2003.
Meanwhile, El-Rufai remains in the custody of the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) over separate allegations of corruption linked to his tenure as Kaduna State governor.
