Drogba delivers CAF petition over Lookman’s transfer

Chelsea legend, Didier Drogba, a prominent figure in African football, has reportedly submitted a 50-page petition to Atalanta, approved by the Confederation of African Football (CAF), advocating for a “fair and transparent” transfer process for Ademola Lookman, the reigning African Player of the Year.

This action comes amidst a contentious transfer saga involving Lookman, who is seeking a move from Atalanta to Inter Milan.

The petition, delivered by Drogba in Italy, emphasizes the importance of accountability and justice in global football transfers, particularly concerning African stars.

Lookman has expressed his strong desire to join Inter Milan, having reportedly reached an agreement with the Nerazzurri weeks ago.

Inter has submitted multiple offers for Lookman, including one for €45 million with add-ons, but Atalanta has rejected them.

Atalanta’s stance is that they had promised to sell Lookman last summer if a suitable offer came, but only to a club outside of Italy to avoid strengthening direct competitors within Serie A.

The situation has escalated, with Lookman reportedly walking out on Atalanta training over a week ago and scrubbing traces of his current club from his social media accounts.

The Nigerian national team has also publicly expressed support for Lookman in his efforts to secure the transfer.

Despite Atalanta’s resistance, Inter Milan is reportedly preparing an improved offer closer to Atalanta’s €55 million valuation, hoping to finalize the deal before the end of August.

Lookman has handed in a transfer request and make a public statement demanding the move. The Nigerian international claimed that Atalanta had promised him a move this summer.
