Democracy Day Misstep, “I bowed and paid homage to Democracy” – Tinubu says
Nigeria’s President Bola Tinubu has reacted to his fall at the Eagle Square, Abuja, on Wednesday morning, making a big joke out of it.
The president missed his step and fell while entering a vehicle for a parade to commemorate his country’s Democracy Day.
Speaking at a dinner, the president referred to the fall as “Swagger”, saying social media is confused about it.
“Early this morning, I had a swagger and it’s on the social media. They are confused whether I was doing buga or doing babbaringa, but it is a day to celebrate Democracy while doing dobale for the day. I am a traditional Yoruba boy, I did my dobale,” he said.
In the Yoruba culture, to dobale means “to prostrate or give honor” to someone.
He said the social was confused by what happened as watchers could not understand what he did.
According to him, while celebrating Democracy, “I ‘dobale’ for democracy,” (meaning I bowed and paid homage to Democracy).
