Dangote Petitions ICPC Over Allegations Against NMDPRA Chief

Billionaire industrialist and President of the Dangote Group, Aliko Dangote, has submitted a formal petition to the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) against the Managing Director of the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA), Mr. Ahmed Farouk.

The petition, it was gathered, borders on allegations of abuse of office, conflict of interest and other regulatory infractions in the discharge of Farouk’s duties as head of the petroleum downstream regulator.

Sources familiar with the matter said Dangote, through his representatives, urged the anti-corruption agency to thoroughly investigate the activities of the NMDPRA leadership, alleging that certain actions and decisions of the authority have negatively affected operations within the petroleum sector, particularly the refining and downstream value chain.

Although full details of the petition were not immediately made public, the development comes amid heightened scrutiny of the NMDPRA and its regulatory role in Nigeria’s oil and gas industry.

When contacted, officials of the ICPC neither confirmed nor denied receipt of the petition, while the NMDPRA was yet to issue an official response as of the time of filing this report.

The petition is expected to further intensify public debate over regulatory transparency and accountability in Nigeria’s petroleum sector.
