Dangote appoints former CBN Director as Group Chief Economist
Aliko Dangote has approved the appointment of former Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Director, Hassan Mahmud, as the Group Chief Economist of Dangote Group.
The appointment, which takes immediate effect, places Mahmud in charge of providing strategic economic analysis and policy advisory services across the conglomerate’s diverse business interests, including cement, energy, petrochemicals, agriculture and manufacturing.
Mahmud brings decades of experience in monetary policy, macroeconomic research and financial sector regulation, having served in various senior capacities at the CBN. During his time at the apex bank, he was involved in key policy formulation processes and economic surveillance initiatives that shaped Nigeria’s financial and macroeconomic landscape.
In his new role, Mahmud is expected to support Dangote Group’s long-term planning, risk assessment and investment decisions, particularly as the company expands its operations within Nigeria and across international markets.
The appointment underscores Dangote Group’s focus on strengthening its economic and policy advisory capabilities amid evolving global and domestic economic conditions.
