Crisis hits ADC as party leaders clash over congress notice

A fresh crisis has erupted within the African Democratic Congress (ADC) following conflicting directives from the party’s national leadership over the conduct of congresses.

The National Secretary of the party, Mr. Rauf Aregbesola, had earlier issued a notice announcing the conduct of congresses across the country. However, the move was immediately met with resistance from state chairmen of the party, who released a disclaimer rejecting and dissociating themselves from the notice.

In the disclaimer, the state chairmen claimed they were acting on the directive of the National Chairman, Senator David Mark, insisting that the congress notice did not have the approval of the party’s highest authority. They warned party members and the general public to disregard the notice, describing it as unauthorized.

The development has exposed deepening cracks within the ADC’s national leadership, raising concerns over internal cohesion and adherence to party processes. Observers say the disagreement could further weaken the party ahead of key political engagements if not urgently resolved.

As of the time of filing this report, neither the National Chairman nor the National Secretary had issued a reconciliatory statement, leaving party members uncertain about the next steps and the official position of the party on the planned congresses.
