Creative Industry Now a Major Global Economic Force – Governor Abiodun

Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, has affirmed that the creative industry has evolved beyond being a mere side hustle, emerging instead as a vital pillar of the global economy.
Speaking through his Deputy, Engr. Noimot Salako-Oyedele, at the opening of the Creative Youths Experience bootcamp themed “Framing the Future”, held on Saturday at the June 12 Cultural Centre in Abeokuta, Abiodun emphasized that his administration is committed to fostering an environment where creative talent can thrive.
He highlighted how President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s youth-focused policies are creating meaningful opportunities across sectors, especially within the creative space, reinforcing the Federal Government’s dedication to empowering the next generation of Nigerians.
Describing the event not just as a programme, but as a movement, the governor noted that it reflects a shared vision—mirroring both Ogun State’s Building Our Future Together agenda and the Federal Government’s Renewed Hope initiative.
Governor Abiodun pledged continued support for the state’s youth through mentorship, resources, and platforms that would position them as leaders in Africa’s creative renaissance. He urged young creatives to let their passion drive them, emphasizing that skills in photography and videography are not only relevant but essential for economic empowerment and global visibility.
He further commended the event organizers, saying creative vocational training is about far more than survival—it’s a path to financial independence, cultural expression, and international relevance.
Veteran filmmaker and director, Tunde Kelani, in his address, encouraged young photographers and videographers to wield their cameras responsibly—using them to challenge the status quo, inspire hope, and document beauty. He underscored the transformative power of technology, noting that content can now be shared globally in seconds, giving creatives unprecedented reach.
Adding to the conversation, NORD Motors Chairman and CEO, Mr. Oluwatobi Ajayi, urged youths to stay focused and resilient despite challenges. He advised them to uphold integrity, pursue their passions, and remain diligent, stressing that character is key to long-term success.
Earlier, the convener of the programme, Mr. Ayomide Ilesanmi, explained that the initiative was designed to empower young people by equipping them with digital and creative skills. He noted that without proper training, many youths risk missing out on the vast opportunities within the digital age.
The three-month training initiative will cover areas such as photography, filmmaking, editing, and film production. At the end of the programme, outstanding participants will receive surprise gifts in recognition of their performance and potential.
