In her welcome address, Caretaker Chairperson of the Union, Mrs. Adeyinka Omolola noted that journalists were vulnerable and greatly exposed to danger in the course of reporting the day to day activities during this period than other groups.
She hereby appealed to government to give journalists a sense of belonging, adding that while others continue to stay indoor to prevent themselves from contacting the deadly virus, journalists were also on the field to report on the proceedings to the people.
Moreover, while delivering the items, OOAF Director-General, Alhaji Mutiu Amode declared that the foundation was committed to supporting the government efforts in making sure the vulnerable groups are properly taken care of in this situation.
The DG lamented that a lot of Nigerians are living in starvation during this pandemic period, while lots of lives have been lost due to the disease.
“Journalists must be well treated as they still go about reporting the situation to the public, not minding the danger faced at this period. The foundation will continue its supports for journalists even after the COVID-19 era,” He added.
