Court sacks House of Reps Majority Leader
The majority leader of the House of Representatives, Hon Alhassan Doguwa, was on Monday, November 4, sacked by the Court of Appeal sitting in Kaduna state.
Daily Nigerian reports that the appeal court sacked Doguwa in a unanimous decision of the judges.
Reading the judgement, lead judge, Oludotun Adefope-Okojie, ordered fresh elections in the constituency.
Jibrin, a former chairman of the House committee on appropriation, was declared winner of the election, but the result was challenged by Aliyu Datti Yako of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
The petition of the PDP candidate was dismissed at the election petition tribunal in the state but he appealed the judgment. Justice Ajoke Adepoju who deliver.
Delivering the verdict, Justice Yahaya Dantijo, the head of a three-member panel of the court, affirmed the earlier judgment of the election petition tribunal which had set aside Melaye’s victory.
