Court labels Nnamdi Kanu an international terrorist

Justice James Omotosho of the Federal High Court in Abuja ruled on Thursday that Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), qualifies as an international terrorist.

The decision stemmed from evidence indicating that Kanu had voiced intentions to bomb the British High Commission in Nigeria.

Justice Omotosho also noted that Kanu allegedly threatened to kill the then–British High Commissioner, Catriona Laing—actions the court said extend the matter beyond domestic terrorism.

According to the ruling, Kanu’s threats against foreign diplomatic personnel and facilities place his conduct firmly within the realm of international terrorism under both Nigerian law and global counter-terrorism standards.
