Court grants interim bail to former AGF Abubakar Malami

adjourns EFCC case to January 5, 2025

The Federal High Court sitting in Abuja has granted interim bail to former Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami (SAN), in his ongoing case with the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

The court granted the interim bail on terms earlier proposed by the EFCC. As part of the conditions, Malami is to surrender his international passport to the court and execute bail bonds with two sureties.

The approved sureties include the Director-General of the Nigerian Legal Aid Council and a serving member of the House of Representatives representing the Augie/Argungu Federal Constituency.

Following the ruling, the presiding judge adjourned further proceedings in the matter to January 5, 2025, for continuation of hearing.

Malami, who served as Nigeria’s Attorney-General from 2015 to 2023, is facing charges brought by the EFCC, though details of the allegations are yet to be fully argued before the court. The case is expected to resume in the new year as legal teams on both sides prepare for substantive hearings.
