Chido, Solomon Win IGCC Captain’s Inaugural Golf Tourney

It was celebration galore at the closing ceremony of the Ibori Golf and Country Club (IGCC), 2020 Captain Inaugural Golf Tournament held at the club golf course in Asaba, Delta State over the weekend.

The two days golf tournament organised by the IGCC Captain, Mr. Alfred Ebreneyin, featured over one hundred and fifty golfers across the country, among whom was the Edo State Deputy Governor, Comrade Philip Shaibu, who out of his time schedule played to honour the club Captain, Alfred Ebreneyin.

At the end of the inaugural event that started with the arrival, registration and cocktail party in Friday, while the tournament proper teed-off on Saturday, winners emerged in different categories featured at the event.

In the men’s category, Chido Egwuonwu emerged overall best with a net score of 75 to lift the trophy. The duo of Chukwuka Monye and Patrick Onukwu placed second and third respectively as they both played 86 net.

Joy Solomon continued her solo run in the ladies category to emerge winner with 78 net while Rita Izoje clinched second position with 81 net just as the club ladies captain, Angela Uwabor picked the third place with 83 net.

Speaking at the presentation of prizes and trophies at the club house, club captain, Alfred Ebreneyin was full thanks to all the participants who came from across the country to play at the tournament.

Ebreneyin who lifted up to his promise of organising a well and befitting tournament noted that he was overwhelmed by the turnout at the tourney. Adding that the tournament was hitched free and well organised with Covid-19 protocols.

He said: “In fact, I give all the glory to Almighty God for the turnout. It is almost unprecedented in our annuals tournaments for such a turnout. I appreciate Edo State Deputy Governor, His Excellency, Rt. Hon. Philip Shaibu who graced and played the tournament along with others too.

In the same vein, Tam Brisbe won the veteran men cadre with 84 net ahead of Edward Evron, who had 85 net, as Ike Oduah settled for third place with 87 net. Also, Magreta Attoh lifted the ladies event with 71 net.

Other winners were Patience Akpan (84 net), and Daniel Wilson (83 net) in the guests ladies and men’s category. Ibrahim Khalil and Ogeili Graceli won the longest drive men and ladies while Benin Club Golf Section (BCGS), Captain, Mayer Ologbosere won the nearest the pin award.
