Channel your complaints through secretary, not legal practitioners — BTC charges Enigie, others

The Benin Traditional Council has charged  Enigie, Edionwere and traditional title holders to channel their messages to the Oba of Benin, Oba Ewuare II, through their Secretary, Frank Irabor.

The Council hereby frowned at the act of soliciting the services of legal practitioners by the Enigie and others in order to channel their complaints to the monarch.

This was contained in a release made available to journalists in Benin City, and signed by the Secretary of the Council, Frank Irabor on Friday.

According to Irabor, he hinted that the practice is totally unacceptable and against the traditional channel of communication to the palace.

“It is to be noted that any Enogie, Odionwere or traditional head of villages that have issues bothering on traditional matters such as Enogie title, chieftaincy title, Odionwere title, Oguedion issue, boundary issue and shrines issue should address their complaints through the secretary of the Council to the Omo N’Oba and not through legal practitioners.

“The palace will like to advise that in the event of complainants having problem in presenting their complaints in writing, they can seek the assistant of a third party to draft the letter for them with signatures of the complainants in the letter.

“Those that wish to write their complaints in Benin language are also encouraged to do so,” he said.

In another development, the palace has disowned Chief David Edebiri, Esogban of Benin who alleged to have represented Oba of Benin at the 30th wedding anniversary of Sir Victor Uwaifo held recently in Benin City.

The palace emphasized that the Chief Edebiri was at the event on his own capacity and not as representative of the Benin Monarch.

“In as much as the Omo N’Oba N’Edo Uku Akpolokpolo, Oba Ewuare II appreciates the music of Sir Victor Uwaifor, it should be noted that the palace did not receive any invitation nor did we send any representative to the wedding anniversary ceremony organized by the music legend,” Irabor quoted.
