Call Your Men To Order, Else – NANS, NAOSS Warn Commissioner of Police

By ABIODUN JIMOH, ABEOKUTA

Ogun State Police Command, Commissioner of Police, Kenneth Ebrimson has been warned to call his men to order or face the full wrath of students in the state.

The leadership of National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) in Ogun State and National Association of Ogun State Students (NAOSS) gave this warning at a press conference jointly addressed by the leaders of the students bodies, held on Tuesday in Abeokuta.

Comrade Bamgbose Tomiwa Peters, Chairman, NANS Joint Campus Committee (JCC), and Comrade Ogunrombi Oluwagbemileke, NAOSS National President at the conference emphasised that they were not elements that will obstruct the dispensation of justice, but that the police should always treat students with respect and stop violating their fundamental human rights.

“We say no to police brutality, we say no to undue harassment, we say no to needless killings. We stand against the hostility of the police to students, we strongly condemn this inhumane, cruelty and injustice by men of the state police command. Enough of the killing of our students, enough of the unjust and unlawful arrest of innocent people.

“We want to state unequivocally that this battle is a fight to finish. Ogun State students rise against the intimidation, constant victimisation, oppression and violation of our fundamental human rights.

“We are no longer confident in the ability of the police to protect us. We will fight this injustice till the last drop of our blood.

“Most disturbing and disappointing is the role the Ogun State Command is playing in this matter. We are highly disappointed in the Command, led by the Commissioner of Police, Kenneth Ebrimson.

“It is not only sad that the police colluded with the Rector to frame the SUG president, but also pathetic and undignifying that the police in Ogun State can be involved in a conspiracy to destroy the life of this innocent young man.

“As student leaders, we have been fighting and we will continue to fight the oppression, ill treatment, unlawful arrest, harassment and intimidation of students in Ogun State by men of the state police command, all in an attempt to label every student a criminal.

“We query the visit of the Commissioner of Police, Kenneth Ebrimson to the rector of the polytechnic few days before Olatunji was arrested.

“We believe strongly that the plan to frame up our comrade was hatched and set in motion during the meeting. Otherwise, how else can one explain the rationale behind the commissioner’s emergency visit to Ilaro, a journey of an approximate of three hours and he didn’t visit the two Federal institutions (FUNAAB and FCE), which are within the same axis of his office,” they narrated.

Furthermore, they remarked that the command’s spokesperson, DSP Abimbola Oyeyemi has also failed woefully in discharging his responsibilities. “Oyeyemi is nothing but a propagandist and his lies and unprofessional behaviour have further widen the gap between the police and the people.

“Students are agents of peace and progress and we should not be treated like animals. The activities of police that have not been subjected to check have led to the loss of many lives and property.

“We call on the State Commissioner of Police, Kenneth Ebrimson to call his men to order or face the full wrath of students in the state.

“We recall with heavy heart, how a young, promising football star, Tiamiyu Kazeem, popularly known as “Kaka” was killed by the men of the state police command. The life of this innocent young man was wasted all because of the greediness, wickedness and viciousness of the police towards the people.

“We also recall how a 400 Level Zoology student of the Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB), Oluwaseyi Akinade was unlawfully arrested and accused of being an internet fraudster. Akinade was brutalised, molested and extorted before he was released.

“Unfortunately, Akinade could not cope with the shame and the huge debt he incurred during his incarceration. He commi
