CAIDOV Condemns Abduction, Beheading of Teacher in Oyo, Demands Urgent School Security Measures

The Centre Against Injustice and Domestic Violence (CAIDOV) has condemned the abduction of students and teachers in Oyo State and the killing of a teacher during the attack, describing the incident as “barbaric” and a direct assault on education and human dignity.

In a statement issued on Monday and signed by its Executive Director, Gbenga Soloki, the organisation called on authorities to urgently secure schools and rescue the abducted victims.

CAIDOV said the beheading of the teacher amounted to a crime against humanity and warned against the normalization of violent attacks on schools and educators.

“The beheading of the teacher is a crime against humanity. Such savagery cannot and must not be normalized,” the statement read, while extending condolences to the family, colleagues and students of the deceased teacher.

The group further described the abduction of students and teachers as a national disgrace, insisting that education is a fundamental right that must be protected.

According to CAIDOV, the recurring attacks on schools reflect failures in intelligence gathering, rapid response and preventive security measures by relevant authorities.

The organisation demanded the immediate and safe rescue of all abducted students and teachers, stressing that no action should strengthen criminal gangs operating in the country.

It also called for a transparent investigation into the incident, public disclosure of findings, and the prosecution of all perpetrators and their sponsors.

CAIDOV urged the full implementation of the Safe Schools Initiative in Oyo State, including the deployment of trained school security personnel, functional early warning systems and rapid response units.

The group also demanded compensation and trauma counselling for affected families, students and staff.

It appealed to the Oyo State Government, the Federal Ministry of Education and the Nigeria Police Force to treat the incident as a national emergency.

“Every delay costs lives and emboldens criminals,” the statement added.

CAIDOV pledged to continue monitoring developments and holding authorities accountable until justice is served and schools are made safe across the country.
