Nigeria government today collected potential coronavirus drug Remdesivir, produced by the Bangladesh’s local pharmaceuticals by sending a chartered flight to treat one of its COVID-19 infected governors.

On June 6 night, Nigerian foreign minister Geoffrey Onyeama made a phone call to his Bangladesh counterpart Dr AK Abdul Momen seeking permission to send a charter flight to Dhaka for collecting Remdesivir, a foreign ministry press release said.

Momen right away granted Nigerian government’s request and in due course, the special Nigerian flight landed at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport (HSIA) at 5 pm today and after a while flew back to Nigerian capital Abuja with the globally sensational medicine.

Besides, the Nigerian government also collected some PPEs and other medical supply as samples to fight against COVID-19. The Nigerian government expressed keen interest to import potential COVID-19 drug
as well as medical supply from Bangladesh, said the release.

Some leading Bangladeshi pharmaceuticals are the first drug manufacturing companies in the world that successfully produced generic Remedesivir with the brand name Remivir.

Remdesivir has been cleared by the US Food and Drug Administration for emergency use in Covid-19 patients – becoming the first medication backed by early clinical data to be made available to fight the novel coronavirus.
