Breaking: VP Kashim Shettima, 25 governors to welcome Peter Mbah to APC

In a major political development, Governor Peter Ndubuisi Mbah of Enugu State will officially defect to the All Progressives Congress (APC) on Tuesday, October 14, 2025.
According to sources familiar with the event, the defection will be marked by a high-profile reception in Enugu, with about 25 APC governors expected to attend.
The Vice President is scheduled to lead the federal delegation representing the Presidency, while the National Chairman of the APC, along with members of the party’s National Working Committee (NWC), will also be in Enugu to formally welcome Governor Mbah into the ruling party.
In what appears to be a complete political realignment in Enugu State, the defection will include:
- All members of the Enugu State House of Assembly, who are expected to defect alongside the governor
- All Local Government Chairmen in the state
- All National Assembly members from Enugu State, except Senator Okey Ezea, who is already an APC member
This mass defection signals a seismic shift in the political landscape of the South-East state, long considered a stronghold of the opposition.
A senior party source described the move as “a strategic consolidation of the APC’s base in the South-East,” saying Enugu is now “firmly under the APC umbrella.”
The implications of Governor Mbah’s defection—coming just 19 months after he was sworn in as governor under the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP)—are expected to reverberate across the national political space.
More details to follow.
