Breaking: Tinubu Reappoints Audi as NSCDC Commandant-General for Another Five-Year Term
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the reappointment of Dr Ahmed Abubakar Audi as the Commandant-General of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps for a fresh five-year tenure.
The renewal, which took effect on Friday, February 27, follows the completion of Audi’s initial term, which began in 2021 under former President Muhammadu Buhari.
Audi is expected to resume duties on Monday with a renewed mandate to strengthen the corps and enhance its role in Nigeria’s evolving security architecture.
According to the presidency, President Tinubu tasked the NSCDC boss with repositioning the agency to play a more prominent role in safeguarding critical national assets and supporting internal security operations. The directive comes as security agencies intensify efforts to tackle banditry, kidnapping, and terrorism across the country.
Dr Audi’s reappointment coincided with activities marking the 2026 World Civil Defence Day at the NSCDC National Headquarters in Abuja.
Born on September 30, 1967, in Laminga, Nasarawa State, Audi has built a long career within the NSCDC, beginning as a volunteer officer in 1996. Over the years, he rose through the ranks, serving in various state commands before his elevation to Commandant-General.
He holds multiple academic qualifications, including degrees from Ahmadu Bello University and the University of Calabar, as well as a PhD in Public Administration from Nasarawa State University, Keffi.
The presidency expressed confidence that his experience and leadership would further strengthen the NSCDC’s capacity to meet emerging security challenges nationwide.
