Breaking: Our preparations for elections are sure-footed, exercise to hold as scheduled – INEC chair

With less than three weeks to the presidential election, chairman of Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Mahmood Yakubu, has assured the Federal Executive Council, FEC, that the series of elections, beginning on February 25, will hold as scheduled.

Presidential and National Assembly elections will hold on February 25th while Governorship and State Houses of Assembly polls will hold on March 11, 2023.

He made the disclosures before the FEC and te-echoed the same after he briefed the Council, presided over by President Muhammadu Buhari.

The INEC boss gave the assurance of the Commission’s readiness amid apprehensions over the likely shift in dates of the polls to accommodate obligatory housekeeping including security, implementation of the currency redesign policy and the electoral arrangements.

Having assured the FEC of the Commission’s readiness, only two agencies or bodies have yet to conclude or declare conclusions of their housekeeping processes, to wit: the Police and the CBN.

The state of preparedness of the Police and the CBN will be officially confirmed at the Friday meeting of the National Council of State in Abuja.
