Breaking: NYAN condemns scraping of SARS….says ‘roles being played by the squad cannot be wiaved aside’
The Norther Youths Assembly of Nigeria NYAN has condemned the scraping of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad of the Nigerian police force.
Following days of public protests, the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Mohammed Adamu, on Sunday, disbanded the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) of the Nigeria Police Force (NPF).
The directive was announced by the Force Public Relations Officer (FPRO), DCP Frank Mba.
But, in a swift reaction, (NYAN) kicked against the scrapping of SARS, freedomonline reports.
Its spokesperson, Mr Ukasha Hamza, said in Bauchi that the role being played by the squad in checking the activities of criminals, especially on the highways,could not be waived aside.
He said what the squad needed was reform to enable it operate in conformity with the rules of engagement by respecting and upholding the fundamental rights of the citizenry.
The group said scrapping SARS would further compound the already deploration security situation in the country.
