BREAKING: (Updated) INEC says APC may not have a candidate in Ondo

Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has advised the All Progressives Congress (APC) to issue an appropriate notice for the conduct of its Ondo State Governorship Primary in line with relevant provision of the regulations and guidelines for the conduct of the party primaries.
With this development, if the party fails to do the appropriate, the ruling party may not be able to feature candidate at rye forthcoming Ondo State Governorship Primaries scheduled to hold on July 20th, 2020.
This was contained in a letter written to the National Chairman of APC by Rose Onaran-Anthony, Secretary to the Commission and dated June 18th, 2020.
She noted: “Please refer to your letter with a reference APC/NHDQ/INEC/19/020/013 which was received at the Commission on the 18th June, 2020.
“The Commission notes that your notice scheduling the conduct of APC Ondo Governorship Primaries on 20th July, 2020 was signed by only the Acting National Secretary.
“This is contradictory to the provision of Article 4.4 of the Commission Regulations and Guidelines for the conduct of party primaries which require such notice shall be jointly signed by the National Chairman and National Secretary of the political party.
“Accordingly, your party is advised to issue an appropriate notice for the conduct of its Ondo State Governorship Primary in line with relevant provision of the regulations and guidelines for the conduct of the party primaries.”
