Breaking: Falae resigns from active politics
The National Chairman of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), Olu Falae, has stepped down as the chairman of the party, thereby quitting active politics.
Citing reasons, he said he quitted based on health grounds and the crisis within the party.
Chief Falae, an administrator and politician from Akure, was secretary to the military government of Ibrahim Babangida from January 1986 to December 1990, and was briefly the Finance Minister in 1990.
Recall that President Muhammadu Buhari’s presidential ambition got a boost yesterday as the Social Democratic Party (SDP) adopted him as its presidential candidate in the February 16 contest.
The adoption took place in Abuja at the end of the party’s National Executive Committee (NEC).
But in a swift reaction, the party’s presidential candidate, Mr. Donald Duke, and supporters of another claimant to the ticket, Prof. Jerry Gana, objected to the NEC’s decision, describing it as unfortunate.
