Breaking: DSS lays siege at Federal High Court to re-arrest Emefiele
Heavily armed security operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS) have taken strategic positions at the premises of the Federal High Court in Lagos, to re-arrest Godwin Emefiele, the suspended Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN).
Justice Nicholas Oweibo, on Tuesday, admitted the suspended apex bank chief to a N20m bail with one surety in like sum on a two-count charge of illegal possession of firearms and ammunition.
He was also ordered to be remanded at the Ikoyi Correctional Services, pending the perfection of his bail.
The DSS, however, in a dramatic move, have taken positions in the court, waiting to pick up Emefiele immediately after he steps out of the court to their waiting van.
Emefiele’s lawyers, led by Joseph Daudu (SAN), confirmed the development.
The DSS had detained Emefiele since his arrest on Saturday, June 10, after he was suspended by President Bola Tinubu on Friday, June 9, 2023.
