Breaking: Buhari Declines Assent To Electoral Act Amendment Bill

President Muhammadu Buhari has again declined to sign into law the Electoral Act Amendment Bill (2018), which among other things sought to make exclusive use of electronic card readers for future elections in the country.

The President’s Senior Special Assistant on National Assembly Matters (Senate), Ita Enang, disclosed this to State House correspondents in Abuja on Monday.

The President had earlier declined to assent to the Bill, reportedly over reservations with reordering of elections sequence; this time, he hinged his action on “drafting issues that remain unaddressed”.

He listed Sections 31, 34 and 85 of the Bill as major areas that he noticed anomalies requiring revision.
