Breaking: Appeal Court Suspends Judgment Deregistering ADC, Other Political Parties

The Court of Appeal in Abuja has suspended the execution of the judgment delivered by Justice Peter Lifu of the Federal High Court, which ordered the deregistration of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) and several other political parties.

In its ruling, the appellate court described the trial court’s action as “the highest form of judicial impertinence,” accusing Justice Lifu of brazenly disregarding an earlier order issued by the Court of Appeal on the matter.

The development effectively puts on hold the enforcement of the Federal High Court judgment pending the determination of the appeal.

Justice Lifu had earlier ordered the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to immediately deregister the affected political parties from participating in future electoral processes over alleged constitutional breaches.

The latest decision by the appellate court is expected to provide temporary relief for the affected parties as the legal battle over their status continues.
