ADC Chairman Nafiu Bala Gombe, Abejide Rally Support for INEC, Hail Electoral Integrity

The National Chairman of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Nafiu Bala Gombe, alongside the party’s National Leader, Rt Hon Leke Joseph Abejide, on Thursday led a delegation of party supporters and faithful to the headquarters of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Abuja, where they declared support for the commission and its leadership.

The delegation commended the INEC Chairman, Prof Joash Amupitan, SAN for his commitment to upholding the rule of law and safeguarding democratic principles at a critical time in the nation’s political development.

Speaking during the visit, Nafiu Bala Gombe described the commission’s actions as timely, lawful and necessary for the sustenance of Nigeria’s democracy, stressing that adherence to the rule of law remains paramount in the country’s electoral process.

Also addressing journalists, Abejide, who represents Yagba East/West/Mopamuro Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, praised the judiciary for its role in interpreting the law without succumbing to pressure from political actors.

He noted that the courts have continued to demonstrate independence by resisting undue influence from individuals and groups seeking to distort democratic processes.

The ADC leadership further cautioned political coalitions and interest groups against attempts to hijack existing political parties, warning that the law does not favour any individual or political platform.

They emphasised that any move capable of undermining democratic institutions or distracting INEC from its constitutional mandate, particularly ahead of the 2027 general elections, should be discouraged.

The party leaders reaffirmed their support for INEC’s leadership and called on all stakeholders to prioritise the stability and credibility of Nigeria’s democracy.

The position was contained in a statement issued by the Acting National Publicity Secretary of the party, Bashiru Abdul Mohammed.
