Breaking #2019Debate: Peter Obi rejects Osinbajo’s explanation on subsidy
Again, the Vice Presidential Candidates of the All Progressives Congress and Peoples Democratic Party, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo and Peter Obi disagreed on payment of subsidy.
While Osibanjo said it should be retained temporarily, Obi said it should be removed completely.
Osibanjo said: “The major problem with subsidy is the abuses. A subsidy is not a bad thing. If we remove subsidy, petrol will go higher to N220. Every country runs a subsidy regime.
Peter Obi reacted that: “What we are subsidising is in-efficiency. You cannot be paying lower prices for health and education and you will be paying a subsidy. It is a waste because you are not developing other components of the economy. We need a total reversal of subsidy. If you do the right thing, the price will come down.”
The organisers had announced that only presidential candidates of the Allied Congress Party of Nigeria (ACPN), Alliance for New Nigeria (ANN), All Progressives Congress (APC), Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and Young Progressives Party (YPP) would be partaking in the debate.
With this, the presidential candidates expected at the debate are Atiku Abubakar, Muhammadu Buhari, Oby Ezekwesili, Fela Durotoye and Kingsley Moghalu.
Omoyele Sowore of the African Alliance Congress; Donald Duke of the Social Democratic Party; Tope Fasua, and a host of others were excluded.
The organiser said the presidential debate will hold on Saturday, January 19, 2019.
