Boko Haram: Surrender now, your final defeat near – Army tell insurgents
The Nigerian Army on Wednesday warned Boko Haram insurgents to surrender because their “final defeat is near.”
Theatre Commander of Operation Lafiya Dole, Maj Gen Ibrahim Attahiru, who issued the warning, also urged insurgents to abandon the false ideologies of their “affluent” leaders who lured them to die
Urging those willing to denounce insurgency to report to any military formation around them, Attahiru assured that they would be rehabilitated and reintegrated back into the society.
He made this known during the monthly Press briefing on the activities of the Operation Lafiya Dole Theatre Command in Maiduguri, Borno State.
According to Attahiru, “In line the Federal Government de-radicalization and rehabilitation programme, surrendered Boko Haram terrorists have been moved to Operation Save Corridor camps for further action, however this is not without extracting useful information from them.
“The Theatre Command of Operation Lafiya Dole is once again calling on insurgents to surrender to any military location nearest to them as there will be no slowing down until Boko Haram terrorist are completely defeated.”
On the recovery of weapons, he said “In the last one month 17 automatic weapons, 1,471 rounds of ammunition, were recovered either along bush path or under the rock, an instance is the recovery of a machine gun under a rock in Madagali local government area by troops on the 10, July 2017.
“It is pertinent to say that the Boko Haram rank are being depleted by the numbers, who are abandoning their weapons to either flee the temple of operations or surrender to troops.
“Members of the public are advised to be vigilante and report any suspicious person in their area to the nearest security agencies or military location that will help in the capture of these terrorists.”
On Boko Haram Improvised Explosove Device, IED, attack, Attahiru said, “The Boko Haram terrorists have continued to undermine fundamental human rights and International laws through the use of women and children to carryout suicide attack on soft and vulnerable targets.
“During this period cases of children donated by their parents to Boko Haram terrorists for them to be used for suicide missions were recorded.
“One involved a female named Zainab Abubakar who was arrested during a suicide mission in Konduga, the other involves a 16-year-old Ababo Kura in Bama Local Government of Borno State, who was arrested by the Cameroon Defense Corps along our common borders while on suicide mission and subsequently handed over to our troops. The two cases are currently being investigated.
“I wish to once again advise parents not to allow themselves to be manipulated into donating their children for activities of insurgency. Anybody with information on such nefarious activity within the theatre should please report such to the nearest military outfit with their location.
