Boko Haram: FG approves N3billion to rehabilitate schools affected by the insurgent in North East- Bobboyi

The Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC) has disclosed that the Federal Ministry of Education has approved N3billion to rehabilitate schools affected by the insurgent in North East.

The Executive Secretary of the Commission, Dr. Hamid Bobboyi, also disclosed that it would soon commence the building of world-class schools nationwide, to enhance quality education in the country.

Bobboyi who revealed this to the Media Executive in his office said the commission is out to do this out of the ordinary by ensuring quality and qualitative education to Nigerian children.

He said, “We need model schools within the country. We’ll soon commence the building of model schools within the country that will meet International standard, in terms of quality infrastructure and ICT compliance. We’ll achieve this within the next five years.”

He added that UBEC is determined to improve the standard of basic education in the country with the provision of proposed world-class school project.

Dr Hamid also asserted that the schools would serve as a training and skill acquisition centers for teachers and students across the country.

However, the UBEC boss decried the alarming rate of out of school children in the country.

“According to a source, Nigeria currently has the highest number of out of school children,” he said. “Borno State has the highest number of out of school children.

“I hereby call on the media to join in the fight against out of school (syndrome) children.

Dr. Bobboyi said that the Boko Haram insurgency has contributed immensely to the alarming rate of children who are out of school.

He added that UBEC would set up rehabilitation centres in the north eastern part of the country to help children get back to school.

He appealed to state governments to pay their counterpart funds in order to access their idle grants so as to improve basic education in the country.

He assured Nigerians of his commitment to refocus the intervention agency through strategic planning and execution.
