Bishop Odetoyinbo, Rev. Fr. Oke tasks  government on quality education

ABIODUN JIMOH, ABEOKUTA
To achieve quality education for children, federal and state governments have been enjoined to spend more on education and improve the standard of schools across the country.
Most Rev. Peter Kayode Odetoyinbo, Bishop Catholic Diocese of Abeokuta, made this assertion in a chat with Daily Dispatch at the grand finale of the 20th anniversary of Sacred Heart Catholic College, Oke Ilewo, Abeokuta, held over the weekend at the school playground.
The Bishop, who also is the proprietor of school emphasised that if both federal and state governments could devote more funding to education, the future of the pupils and students will be brighter than as being witnessed now.
He said: “My advice to the government is that they should spend more on education and be more committed and improve the standard of our schools and in all our schools.
“Sacred Heart Catholic College is a private institution from the church, but comparing with the public school, there is nothing to write home about the government school. We hope that the government will rise up to their own responsibilities, spend more on education and meet up with the standard that is expected of them for our children.”
In the same vein, while given his own advice to the government and parents, the director of education at the diocese, Rev. Fr. Patrick Oke, advised that the government should see church as partner in the development of education in the state and country as a whole.
Rev. Fr. Oke stated: “In the past we usually see good rapport between the church and the state, now maybe due to ignorant by governor’s and those who are in authority, they do not have such collaboration again.
“And my advice to the parents is that they should not look for anything that is free, they should use their hard earned money in order to bring good education that will give their children a better future.”
