Biodun in Benin: Why I Still Allowed 7 Hours Movement Every 48 Hours – Governor Abiodun
By ABIODUN JIMOH, ABEOKUTA
Ogun State, Governor Dapo Abiodun has revealed the real reason for allowing seven hours movement of people across the state in every 48 hours.
Though, many people have expected that the government would stop the movement initially enjoyed during the first tranche of 14 days total lockdown announced by President Muhammadu Buhari on March 29th which expired on Sunday, before he reintroduced another 14 days lockdown again in his nationwide broadcast on Monday, April 13th.
This Mr. President announcement caught many people unaware who also expected similar from the state government, but Abiodun in his magnanimity preferred to sustain the usual movement every 48 hours to cushion the effect on them.
On Tuesday, in his first official response to the national broadcast of the President, Governor Abiodun enjoined the citizens and residents of the state to endure the 14-day extension of the lockdown in the state.
He said: “To strike a delicate balance of need for public safety and welfare of the citizenry, the current window of relaxation of the lockdown in the state from 7.00am to 2.00pm will follow the same pattern of last week. That is, it will still be available Wednesday (15th April) and Friday (17th April, 2020).
“However, the government is reviewing the current window to enable citizens and residents restock on food items and conduct essential businesses during the period of the extended lockdown announced by President Muhammadu Buhari on Monday.”
