Biafra Separatist Simon Ekpa Gets Six-Year Jail Term in Finland for Terrorism

Simon Ekpa, leader of the self-proclaimed Biafra Republic Government in Exile, has been handed a six-year prison sentence by a Finnish court for inciting terrorism against Nigeria.
Authorities said Ekpa exploited his online platforms to fuel unrest in the South-East, a campaign prosecutors argued amounted to supporting terrorism.
He was arrested in November 2024 and has already served nearly a year of his sentence. Nigeria, which has lodged an extradition request, awaits Finland’s decision in the wake of the ruling.
