Benue Killings: Tinubu slams security chiefs over inaction

…. Orders Arrest of Perpetrators

President Bola Tinubu has expressed deep dissatisfaction over the failure of security agencies to make any arrests following the brutal June 14 massacre in Yelwata community, Guma Local Government Area of Benue State.

During a town hall meeting with stakeholders in Makurdi on Wednesday, the President openly questioned the security leadership, directing them to act swiftly and decisively.

Addressing the Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Musa, Tinubu asked pointedly: “Christopher… why are there no arrests? We need to get our ears to the ground. Let’s get those criminals. Let’s get them out.”

The President’s visit comes in the wake of a series of deadly attacks by suspected armed herdsmen, which have left nearly 200 people dead in recent weeks.

Speaking directly to Benue State Governor Hyacinth Alia, Tinubu suggested political sabotage may be at play. “Your political enemies don’t want you to succeed… Are you just realising that?” he remarked.

He called for unity among the region’s leaders across political, ethnic, and religious lines, emphasizing that peace must be a shared responsibility.

“We cannot do without one another. I want us to form a leadership committee immediately to meet in Abuja and develop a strategy for lasting peace. I am ready to invest in that peace,” he pledged.

Earlier in the day, President Tinubu visited survivors of the Yelwata attack at the Benue State University Teaching Hospital, where he sympathized with the victims and their families.

He was received in Makurdi by Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator George Akume, and Governor Alia.
