BCGS Monthly Mug: Iyare Beats Shaibu On Count-Back

Edo State Deputy Governor, Comrade Philip Shaibu, handicap 20 hope of winning the Benin Club Golf Section (BCGS) Monthly Mug/Handicap Competition was dashed by Gen. Oscar Iyare (rtd.) over the weekend.
At the one day golfing activity that featured over fifty golfers, Gen. Iyare, playing handicap 11 continued his incredible run in the game by beating the deputy governor on count-back, having both played a net score of 66 to emerge winner of the tournament.
However, placing third behind the number two man was B. Ovbiye (hcp. 19), who recorded a net score of 69, while the best gross award was won by Osaze Iyare with 73 gross.
The ladies category was the battle of former lady captains, as Debby Otabor (hcp.15) emerged winner at the expense of Princess Habiibah Oyeghe Oyarekhua (hcp.28) and Florence Okorodudu (hcp. 30) as both played 74 net and 80 net respectively to place second and third.
Engr. Basil Idahosa won the veteran category based on 68 net score, while Wilco Tiger Otabor (hcp.24) net score of 75 placed him on second, hereby pushed Afam Obanor (hcp.15) with 78 net to third place. Also, A. Uhunmwagho won the super veteran men cadre with a net score of 67 over John Ogbeide 70 net.
In his winner’s speech, Gen. Iyare attributed his recent form and victory to hard work. “I am just being my usual self, play my golf as usual, so nothing special, just that today too everything went very well for me. My putting was very good and I never left the fairway for once, and that was the magic today, otherwise I was like my usual self.”
