ABIODUN JIMOH, BENIN CITY
The management of Nigeria National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) partnering with the Benin club golf section (BCGS) to develop the game of golf in Edo State and Nigeria in general have been commended.
Captain of the club, Prince Aghatise Erediauwa gave this commendation at the 2019 edition of NNPC Upstream Golf Tournament held at the golf course, GRA, Benin City on Saturday.
Prince Erediauwa, while hosting the Group Managing Director (GMD) of NNPC, Mallam Mele Kyari at the club administrative building recently renovated by NNPC, after the ceremonial tee-off appreciated the GMD for his laudable achievements, and for the golf tournament.
The captain however used the occasion to solicit for more support in furtherance of the cordial relationship between the club and NNPC, which has spanned over many decades.
“Just like Oliver Twist, mobility to move around is one of our major challenges in this section. We don’t have a vehicle as a club while other clubs have. To transport our members to various tournament has always been difficult.
“We are appealing to you to come to our rescue so as to ease the burden of traveling for tournaments on our members. NNPC gave us a bus long ago, but it has become dilapidated, even the cost of repairing it is very high.
“The club on its part is working well. If you come here at night, you will discover that our course is well lighted to play at night,” Prince Erediauwa said.
Meanwhile, the GMD when responding to captain’s request noted that the corporation is experiencing financial constraint, but will look at the resources and to see what they can do.
He also thanked the club for living up to expectation and for accommodating NNPC staff who are members of the club. “Benin is crucial to NNPC, that is the reason for partnering with the club.”
“It is very important to NNPC because some major of our operations take place in this place, our staff live here and they are part of their usual practice whiling away time, relaxing and enjoy themselves being part of their activity to play golf and to be at the Benin club.
“Not only that, the cream of people in society in this region living in this town, and our operation requires the support of everyone to succeed and therefore we always see it as opportunity for us to have some engagements with our stakeholders so that they can help us in making sure that the objective of the corporation which is to grow production, grow peace in the Niger Delta is achievable,” he said.
