Bauchi Governor Jumps Ship: Bala Mohammed Moves from PDP to APM
Governor Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed of Bauchi State has officially defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the Allied Peoples Movement (APM), citing unresolved internal crises within his former party.
The governor announced his decision after a high-level meeting with key stakeholders in the state, following the Supreme Court of Nigeria judgment on the PDP leadership tussle.
According to him, the situation within the PDP had become “complex and uncertain,” noting that repeated efforts to restore stability failed to yield results. He explained that the apex court nullified parallel conventions conducted by rival factions, effectively leaving both sides without legal standing.
Governor Mohammed said the development created a leadership vacuum that made it difficult for the party to function effectively or move forward.
He disclosed that his defection followed extensive consultations with political leaders and stakeholders across the country. While expressing gratitude to the PDP for its role in his political journey, he described his move to the APM as a “strategic repositioning” aimed at securing future electoral victory and sustaining governance in Bauchi State.
The governor added that the APM offers a credible and legally stable platform for political engagement. He revealed that a transition plan is already underway, including the establishment of a compliance committee and the commencement of membership registration.
Other steps outlined include engagement with APM leadership at various levels and coordination with the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
Mohammed urged his supporters to remain calm, united, and committed to sustaining progress in the state.
Reacting to the development, the APM National Chairman, Yusuf Mamman Dantalle, welcomed the governor into the party, describing him as a true democrat.
Dantalle assured that the APM operates on principles of integrity, sacrifice, and service, with its slogan “Nigeria First,” adding that the party has no history of leadership crises or godfatherism and is guided strictly by its constitution and the will of the people.
He also commended Governor Mohammed’s inclusive leadership style and commitment to democratic values.
